There has always been a debate over films that are based on novels. While critics and film-lovers alike may debate over the film adaptation and argue that the films may not do justice to the novels they are based on, some have loved the films more than the novels. says Hollywood often turns to novels and non-fiction books for movie ideas, but sometimes the films become so popular with audiences that they overshadow the source material. For instance, the 1993 hit comedy Mrs. Doubtfire is based on British author Anne Fine’s young adult novel by the name of Alias Madame Doubtfire. In fact, the movie and the book share some similar plots. has, over the years, given a review of many films that are based on novels. Some of the popular films to be based on novels include:

• The Shawshank Redemption: It follows the story of two imprisoned men who forge a special bond over the years.

• The Godfather: Considered a classic, this film follows the aging patriarch of an organised crime dynasty.

• Schindler’s List: This film won seven Oscars and depicts the bravery of a person – Oskar Schindler who saves the lives of many in his Jewish workforce after witnessing their persecution by the Nazis.

There are several other movies based on novels such as The Pianist, Forrest Gump, Sense and Sensibility, One Flew over The Cuckoo’s Nest that have proved to be more admired than the novels they were based on.
